Awards
During the course of David Sullivan’s career many groups and organizations have honored him for the work he has done on behalf of the citizens of Massachusetts and for the people of Fall River. Whether it was taking a strong stance on protecting the elderly or making sure our youth had the tools and resources necessary to succeed in this fast paced world, David Sullivan was there.

His independent leadership has shone like a ray of light at the state house. When some wanted to de-designate Fall River’s state pier he demonstrated that he was a true visionary by his effort to fight de-designation and save the state pier while others tried to do away with this great resource. By keeping the state pier a working pier Fall River can join with other shipping communities and become a short sea-shipping destination.

His tenacity was evident by his continued fight to protect vulnerable seniors from self-neglect. For 3 years Sullivan fought to pass legislation, which would ensure that each protective service case be investigated. Prior to Sullivan’s legislation elder self-neglect cases went unnoticed. In one year 567 cases went unheeded. Sullivan put a stop to this by not only creating a new protective service law, but also making sure the funds were in place to do the job by adding $2 million to the state budget.

Of his work Mass Home Care Executive Director Al Norman said:

“He approached it like a marathon
and kept running his arguments
until everyone was exhausted.”

These are just some of the reasons that David Sullivan has received recognition from groups and organizations.
